Different Types of Crochet Wig Caps | Crochet Wigs Tips for Beginners
If you're looking to make a crochet wig, choosing the right wig cap is key. After making wigs for over 13 years (and crochet wigs for about 6 years), I've tried a variety of caps and found my favorites. Here are my top recommendations, plus a few that I don't recommend and why.
1. Standard Crochet Wig Cap
Recommended Crochet Wig Caps
This Crochet Wig Cap is easy to find at your local beauty supply store for about $3, and it's also available on Amazon. While these work well, the elastic band isn't my favorite feature. I prefer wig caps that allow you to crochet hair directly onto the band. If you do use this cap, simply tuck the band under the wig while wearing it to keep it hidden.

I made this Crochet Wig with this standard crochet Wig cap. In the, I show how this wig is made and hack to cover up the elastic band.
2. Upgraded Crochet Wig Cap
I love this Crochet Wig Cap because you can crochet hair across the entire cap. There is no annoying band to deal with! The small holes are perfect for creating a full cap crochet wig since they allow you to place the hair close together. These crochet Wig Caps are available on Amazon for around $6 for two caps. They come in small, medium, and large. I personally buy the large size and adjust it to fit my client's head perfectly.

Lace Crochet Wig Cap
This Crochet Wig Cap combines the benefits of a full crochet Wig cap with lace for added versatility. It comes with attached combs, though I'm not a fan of their placement (luckily, they can be removed). This cap costs about $10 and is also available on Amazon.
This Crochet Wig Caps are my go to for U-part crochet wigs. I simply cut the lace and add two combs to each side of the U parting area, You can also leave this as a lace crochet Wig,
One downside is that the lace part is positioned on the right side. To work around this, I pin the cap on my wig block as if I'm creating a middle part, ensuring both sides have an even amount of hair.
Overall, I love this Crochet Wig Cap and highly recommend.

Crochet Wig Caps I'm Looking Forward to Trying
Headband Crochet Wig Cap
If you're new to wigs or prefer a beginner-friendly option, this Crochet Wig Cap is worth exploring. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm excited to.
I found them on Amazon. It comes in a two-pack for around $9.The band is nice and silky and feels like it will be gentle on our edges.
If you use a Headband Crochet Cap, make sure the crochet hair matches your leave-out hair.
In a future video, I'll share how I plan to use this cap.

Caps I Don't Recommend For Crochet Wigs
Mesh Dome Cap For Wig Made With Bundles
While you can use a regular mesh dome cap (typically meant for wigs with bundles), I found it challenging to get the latch hook through the material. Crochet wig caps are specifically designed for crochet wigs, making the process much easier.

Pre-Made U-Part Crochet Wig Cap
I don't recommend these because the "U" opening is often too large and lacks customization. Instead, I suggest using a full cap wig and creating your part at the desired size. You can then cut out the excess material or use a lace crochet wig cap, trimming the lace and adding your own combs for better control.

I hope this guide helps you choose the right crochet wig cap for your next project!
